Renovations continued!!

Good morning beautiful people!!

Firstly, I want to show you how awesome Leandrie's makeup came out for her Matric Dance!!

The Bloomin' Couch is now officially tiled!! I personally helped with the grouting, and I have to say I love the gray tiles. It looks very clean and simple, and I think it'll go great with my purple colour scheme!

Didn't I look glamorous in my green gloves working that grout? Haha! Had fun doing it though!!

I will let you guys know as soon as the place is finished, I am planning on doing something special for the grand opening, but that will probably be more toward the end of the year. Wishing you all a wonderful Friday, and congrats to the Bokke, even if it was a close win!

Stay beautiful!

I couldn't resist blogging about this! I read an article on News24 about Carlashes, which is just as it says, lashes for your car!! This being a beauty blog, I figured you would enjoy seeing this!

You can check out Carlashes website, and I got all the images from there as well.

I think it is cute! But I doubt if my hubby would allow me to put them on a car!! Would you?

Wednesday Review - Yardley Translucent Powder

Good morning world!

I'm quickly writing this to you before I have a makeup trial this morning. It has been a hectic few days! But I am thankful for the work coming my way. :)

Anyway, on to reviewing!! The product I have lined up for you today is Yardley's translucent powder. It sells for about R90.00 and contains 50g of loose powder and a small powder puff. I have been using it for about a month and it does not seem to get less! Here is how it looks :

A lot of people don't actually know this, but using a powder to set liquid foundation is kind of important! It helps the foundation to last longer, makes it look less shiny and absorbs oil from the skin during the day. You can use any powder, if it is compact, loose or even powder foundation over the liquid foundation! This is a good tip to remember with any makeup, from eyeliner to lipstick, you can use powder (or a similar shade eye shadow) to set the product you have applied and make it last longer.

Now this translucent powder isn't exactly translucent, but then I have never seen a translucent (getting tired of typing that word!!) powder of any sort that is colourless. Most of them are white and leave the face pale after use, and some, like this one, are slightly flesh toned. It does go on very well though, and I really don't mind the little colour, just because it doesn't make my face look grey-ish, as a lot of these powders tend to do. I don't know how well this would work on darker skin though, even if it says "Suitable for all skin tones".

I do like the scent of this powder. Yup, it is scented! Who doesn't like something that smells nice?

Overall, this is a nice powder, and I would probably buy it again. I have been happy with the results it offers, and it is not too expensive to my taste. I will let you know how long it lasts!

Hope you have a fabulous day and stay beautiful!

Matchy Makeup

Hi everyone!

Today I want to talk about a HUGE trend in makeup at the moment, having makeup that matches your clothes, nails or lips and eyes matching etc.

This is a really easy trend to follow! You can achieve it by simply using the same blush on your eyes as you used on your cheeks, and applying a similar shade lipstick. You can also take the shade of your dress and simply line your eyes with it. Applying the same shade nail polish is also in. Some extremists actually match the whole lot!

Here are some examples :

In the above two pictures you can see the other big trend, full eyebrows. I have blogged about this before, you can check it out here. I don;t very much like the pink eyes and lips on the pale face though. Also, the second and next pictures are from UK makeup artist Lisa Eldridge. You really should check out her YouTube and subscribe, she has some awesome tutorials. You can see her website here.

This really is a big trend for Fall / Winter 2011 (which will probably be in next year here in South Africa too) and anyone can wear it. (Images from Google)

While I can live with nail varnish and lipstick matching, and I'll probably apply matching makeup on a client if she asked me to, I'm not so in love with this trend. Maybe I'm too free spirited! I like having pink eye shadow and wearing blue nails polish with a green top! (Haha, I don't own a green top...) What are your thoughts?

Mascara ads

Happy Monday beautiful people!!

Today I wan't to jump on the bandwagon with a topic that everybody has been buzzing about for a while now, the use of false lashes in mascara adverts. Here are some examples : (images from Google)

In all of these ads, it is very obvious that the model is wearing fake lashes, even if they are the semi permanent type. Do you feel that the cosmetics companies are taking us for fools? I have to be honest and say that this has never bothered me, because it was so obvious, but a lot of people, ranging from beauty blogs I follow to News24 have actually raised this issue and are quite unhappy about it. I mean, we all know that no mascara brand can lengthen / thicken our lashes to that extent. I can buy the exact same product as shown in one of these images and not have the same effect. Yes, there are those mascara brands that attach fibers to the ends of our natural lashes to lengthen them, but they cost a small fortune, and none of the above actually do that (as far as I could see).

But then, don't they airbrush all the women on the anti-aging (and all other ads) anyway? And don't they Photoshop the nail colours on the nail varnish ads (I mean, the chances of some hyper famous actress having her nails painted 10 times over?), as well as the hair colour swatches on the self-colour boxes? All (or 90% of) the beauty ads we see are fake!

It is the way it has been done for so many years, I think we would be shocked to see the real thing.

Please share your views in the poll section!

Stay beautiful!

Braided hairstyles

Hi everyone!!

Braided hairstyles are the shizzle in Tinseltown right now!! It is hot to wear milkmaid braids, boho braids, and just about any braids, to red carpet events and even to the supermarket. I have to say, I kind of love this trend, as it has so many possibilities!

Here are some celebrities rocking braids :

So I thought it could be cool if I showed you how to do a few different braids so you could get creative and make your own funky braided hairstyles. Watch this space for some tutorials!!

Stay beautifully braided,

Wednesday Review : Avon Extra Lasting Makeup Remover

Good Morning beautiful people!!

I'm writing to you today feeling a little sheepish, and being on both cold medicine and pain killers. "Why?" you may ask, well I'll tell you. I'm still sick, and only now am I starting to feel better, but I'm not totally there yet. And on top of all, my clumsy self slammed my poor right thumb in the car door yesterday. This in the time I have to complete a huge art commission, and now my thumb is so swollen and sore, I can't hold a pencil!! Waiting in horror to see if the nail is going to come off...

Anyway, enough ranting and moaning!!

I'm reviewing Avon's extra lasting makeup remover today. I have had it for about 3 months, and I started using it on some of my clients and models during my makeup course, only to get really negative feedback. I decided then to try the rest of the product on myself, to see why none of the people I used it on, liked it.

This is how it looks :

Now the product consists of two layers, one is oil based, so it has to be shaken before use. The bottom two pictures are how it looks when it has been "all shook up" :). The bottle is plastic and contains 50ml of makeup remover. I bought it from Avon on a special offer for R39.99, and I have no idea what the normal price is.

Why I don't like it :

* Firstly, it burns my skin. And not only mine, a few people I used it on complained about the same thing. I don't have a sensitive skin at all, and it is very seldom that anything is too harsh for my skin, but this product is. I can't explain it at all. I have used many Avon products before, including deep cleaners to remove blemishes, and none of the other products have ever left a burning sensation on my skin.

* Secondly, you have to use quite a lot of product to get your face clean, especially when it comes to mascara, whether it's normal or waterproof. It didn't take long to get this empty, and I don;t even wear makeup every day! In fact, I only wear makeup about 4 out of the 7 days a week.

* Lastly, if I had to compare it to makeup removing wipes, which you can find at any Clicks, pharmacy or even Chinese store, it does not fare too well. I picked up a pack of 60 makeup wipes for the same price (R39.99) at Clicks, and I prefer them 100 times more. It only takes one wipe to clean everything off my face, where it takes about 2-3 cotton pads and quite a bit of Avon's makeup remover to do the same. The wipes are really soft on the skin, and there is no hard rubbing involved. Not to mention I have about half the makeup wipes left, having used it on models in my course, a few clients and myself as well, and I bought it around the same time as the makeup remover.

I don't think I'll buy this product again.

I hope this was helpful to you!!

Have a great day and stay beautiful!

Spring / Summer 2011 Makeup Trends

Hi beautiful people!!

So, as we are on the other side of the world, where the heat is slowly turning up, I'm going to recap some of the makeup trends that are going to be in this season. All of the images come from Google!!

First up, full eyebrows are in. I used to have a pair of these, but years of tweezing eliminated mine!! And this trend is continuing into Autumn / Winter 2012, so if you have some, keep them!! Haha!!

Then we have the Dior bright eye makeup, with a pin-up feel to it.

I don't know if you'll see me rocking this look in the streets, but maybe it's more wearable in more muted colours, or you could always try this as a smokey eye, which is always in.

Always in fashion is the red lip, paired with very muted and natural makeup.

All you need for this look is perfect foundation, a bit of eyeliner and mascara, and a red lipstick that goes with your skin tone. Anyone could pull off this look!

Another lip trend is very bright lipstick in orange, pink and reds (I have also seen some blue and purple lipsticks for this look, but I doubt any of you would wear blue lips!! Then again, maybe some of my crazy family would... Hmmm... :P).

This look is paired off with natural looking makeup again, because it would simply be too much to take in if otherwise. You want to pull the attention to what's going on with your lips, not look like a circus act on the way to the stage!! ^_^

Next, the ever popular smokey eye. Metallic smokey eyes are in, as well as deep browns. This look is completed with nude lips and glowing skin. The same goes for heavy eye makeup as for the lips above, you want the focus to be on the eyes. The look would be overpowering with too much lipstick and blush. Don't get me wrong, there are those souls in the planet who could pull off heavy looks like that, and they are known as Katy Perry, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, and Lady Gaga. :P

The last big trend is very natural makeup. Just foundation, eyeliner and mascara, in some cases light pink blush for that glowing complexion, and nude to light pink / peach lips.

Now that you have inspiration, go makeup!! :D Please let me know which of these looks you would, of wouldn't wear, and how it turned out.

Stay beautiful!!
