Oh, Christmas tree!

Hello beauties!

This year, I decided to go for only two colours on my Christmas tree. Well, three if you count the tinsel. I don't know if it's this way all around the world, but here in sunny South Africa, we like very heavily decorated trees. Especially Afrikaners. The more bright and bountiful, the better. Lights, anyone? You can never have enough lights on a Christmas tree, paired with ten colours of tinsel and a hundred baubles and other decorations. And that's on a small tree.

Haha! It's true!

Anyway, I'm over it. This year, I decorated my tree in red and turquoise and I added only silver tinsel. It may look underdone to you, fellow South Africans and yes, maybe even to the rest of the world, but I'm happy. Jan bought me new decorations yesterday upon my insistence and here's how it went down.

The decorations. Simple and sweet. I love the colours together and I was more than happy with just the two containers full. There are sixteen blue and twenty four red.

Jan hiding behind the tree while opening up the branches. Just a heads-up here don't buy a tree with lights attached to it already, it's a mission and a half to get it set up. Take it from us. We've been setting up this tree for four years now and the setting up is only eclipsed in difficulty by the taking down. I get a shiver down my spine just thinking of it...

But the lights do look purdy! How do ya like my horrifying green curtains? When we moved into this flat (that is apartment to my international friends. Only in SA do we refer to our places of residence as flats. Haha!), we had more windows than in our previous homes and I didn't have enough curtains. I'm a curtain person. So we kept up granny's curtains until we buy our own. I'm working on it OK? :)

This is me pretending to put up the star. I wasn't really. :) The next pics are of my understated and bare tree.

Look at what we left out this year! And that's only the top layer of tinsel! We own two full boxes and a bag full of Christmas decorations! We have it in every thinkable colour, from pink to red to orange to blue to green to gold to silver to... you  get the idea. We have gift parcels and candy canes and stars and baubles and santa's and so much more. It's crazy!

Have a fantastic weekend folks!

Christmas Nail Art!

Hello beauties!

Today I've got some nail inspiration for you guys to enjoy. I never do my nails up for anything, but maybe I'll make the effort this year for Christmas. I found these all on Pinterest and I've included something for every taste and skill level. Enjoy!

If you don't have matte nail polish, simply add some cornstarch to polish to make it matte. I tell you, there's nothing you can't achieve with cornstarch!

I'm off to put up our Christmas tree.

Snowflakes for Christmas!

Hello beauties!

This weekend, there's going to be some hectic Christmas-ification at my house. I still don't have the tree up and not a single one of my presents (and that's the three I have ready...) have been wrapped. This is a truly weird phenomenon, since my tree is usually up at the end of October already and I leave it up until mid to end January. I love Christmas decorations. And this year, I have none.

So, to get into the spirit of things, I'm sharing these cool snowflake patterns with you. Not that we have snow this time of the year in South Africa! It's Summer and it's a hot one so far. But why can't we have a white Christmas here too?

First up, these quirky Star Wars snowflakes. I had a chuckle! Click here for the patterns.

You can find some other snowflake designs on these cool websites :

Paper Snowflake Patterns
All Seasons Snowflakes
First Palette
High Hopes

That last one has some cool patterns and ideas.

So, share with me, what have you done to decorate your house for the holiday season? I know my American friends have had the one holiday after the other now, with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas on the way. Do you change your decor for each one?

I usually have a Christmas dinner for my friends every year, but there hasn't been a moment we could all spare to get together and have this dinner! So, early next year, we'll finish off Christmas. I'll do a post on the preparations for you!

Digital art!

Hello beauties!

What is digital art? A lot of people ask this one. Since I do digital art myself, it's something I care about quite a lot and it happens to annoy me when people say it's 'Photoshopping'. Because it isn't.

Digital art is a form of art created on drawing tablets or computers, using a stylus or mouse. The artist draws or paints (using brush effects) the piece from start to finish, just like one would have done on a canvas. Photoshopping is when a photograph is altered to make it look better. Digital art is when a work of art is completed by the artists hand, a new painting or drawing done from scratch. Got it?

That doesn't mean digital art can't be incredibly realistic! Ever heard of photorealism? People have been doing that for years, making their paintings look so realistic that it could as well have been photographs. Today I want to share some videos of this with you. It's mind blowing to see some of these artists work!

Before I show the videos, I have to say this; these are done in time-lapse. Time-lapse is when a person records on their computers / tablets WHILE THEY DRAW and then speed the whole film up afterwards. These are real, by real artists. Prepare to have your minds blown.

Amazing huh? You can go back to YouTube and search for speedpainting videos out there. Some are incredible, some are so-so, but there are thousands of them out there. Here are some examples of finished digital artworks. None of them belong to me, I just don't know who did these.

Awesome huh? The last few are my own artworks. You can check out more here if you want to. I'm not half as good as these guys up here, but I try! (:

Hope you enjoyed this post!
