Weekend In Pictures - Everything You Can Think Of

You should have read in the title - My Weekend In Pictures - Anschke Does My Makeup. Personal joke there, but I know I just made some people laugh and Anschke groan. It's my pleasure. :D

So, this weekend. A LOT happened. I wrote on every opportunity I got. I'm working on chapter FORTY of my new novel. There's 400 pages in 6 weeks for you. Watch this space peeps. The Queen's Fury is coming 1 June this year, and I at the tempo I'm currently writing, I'm going to share another novel later in 2015. #excitementintheair

My weekend started like this. Liani and I did the makeup for a wedding party on Friday at Galapagos Country Estate. It was the first wedding we made up together, can you believe it? But we had a lot of fun!

We unleashed the kraken on Friday night, when we allowed Kayla to play with 250 balls in the living room. She played to her heart's content and we managed to snap some shots of that.

On Saturday, I went shopping with Jan and Kayla. I picked up some makeup and nail polishes, and I'm so excited about my new Gosh primer! I love that stuff! After that I went to an Annique Sip and Soak event, hosted by my aunt, Karin. They raised money to buy special shoes for one of the most awesome human beings I've ever met, Suné from Chit-Chat And Cheer. We were pampered by the beauty therapy girls from Complete School of Beauty and we sipped on some lovely rooibos cocktails.

On Sunday, Jan and I were in the shops again, with Kayla looking at us like we were crazy. You see, I had a photoshoot with Liani in the afternoon and I still had nothing to wear in the morning... Luckily, I found a dress that would work and I was saved! Haha! Anschke did my makeup beautifully, while Kayla took some selfies on Jan's phone.

Then I had a fun shoot with the bestie. TOTALLY out of my comfort zone, wearing a mint / turquoise dress and fancy makeup. I mean, you've known me for long enough to know that 90% of the clothes I own are black or grey. So. But I think the shots came out nicely anyway!!

Here are the photos.

More on that shoot soon. I'm really stoked about it!! Right now, I need to go write. I am not obsessed, I'll have you know. I. Am. Not. (Fine. I'm obsessed. But don't tell.)

Have a fabulous week, folks!

Current Sound Obsession

Have you heard of this guy, George Ezra? You probably have.

I've been under a rock lately. Under. A. Rock. (Phenomenon that happens when a writer has inspiration and does nothing but write (and obviously spends time with the baby, but when the baby sleeps, does nothing but write). This has been horrible punctuation, I know.)

This is how it happened for me.

I saw this recommended video in my YouTube feed. It was of the new Sherlock movie in which Sir Ian McKellen will portray Holmes. I love Sir Ian, as should every other person alive. So I watch the trailer, get excited for the movie and think nothing more of it. And then it happened.

The next time I went on the YouTube, this video was recommended.

I mean, honestly. HONESTLY. That's just perfection.

So I decided this George Ezra guy is OK, and I went on to listen to a lot of his other music. My mind was blown. Where have you ever heard a voice like that? It's soulful and incredible, so very outside the mould of the Belieber-thing we're being force fed as music. I love the folky sound to Ezra's music and I'm certain you will too. Here are some of my favourites.

This last one is my favourite at the moment. LOVE IT!

I hope you have a fabulous week!

It seems more people miss my daily blogs than I initially imagined. Just yesterday, no less than two unrelated people told me that they miss my blogs (and no, it's not the people from this post). I was really starting to think that nobody even noticed I was gone.

You see, I'm in a funk.

There, I said it.

I blogged every weekday for three years straight, with the exception of a holiday here and there. I blogged right through everything; my first book, my pregnancy and second book, and through the first year of my child's life. I shared a lot of my soul here, for everyone to read, and somehow, people kept reading. I loved writing this blog. I loved it so much that I couldn't ever imagine stopping.

Maybe I'm a weak person, you know? Maybe that's it. Because when people started to criticise me and my blog, I started to pull back more of myself. When the people started to tell me my blog was losing its spark, I listened. I asked you what you wanted and people answered. And then I changed everything.

I changed everything.

And THAT'S why I'm in this funk. I feel like I'm lost at sea. I wake up in the morning, realise I haven't blogged and I panic, only to realise, "Wait, I don't need to blog today, because I don't do that anymore." Then I calm down and go on. I miss blogging. I do. I just have that 'why bother' thing going on at the moment.

A while ago someone told that my blog had lost it's 'Yolandie-ness'; that thing that made it mine.

That was an eye opener. Some people want me to post fabulous original photos, amazing tutorials and great ideas, but some people just want that quirky thing that I do. Is that even possible? My mind gets blown by the idea everytime I think about it.

It also made me realise something; I just want to write. I don't care much for the smoke and mirrors, or glitter and glamour (if I can put it that way). I don't need stunning photos and flashy banners to accompany my blogs, because I just want to write. I don't need well thought out makeup or nail tutorials because people told me that's what they wanted, because I just want to write. I don't need to blog about the trends and the red carpet events as they happen, BECAUSE I JUST WANT TO WRITE.

More shocking even is this realisation. You just want to read.

So thank you to the family and friends who have been nagging at me to blog again. This time, I'm listening to the right people. I'm not saying I'll be back every day, I'm just saying I'll try to be here more often. I'm still in that funk, and I'm clawing my way out of it. They say the first step to recovery is admitting the problem. So let's see if that's true. :)

And you, thank you for sticking around. Sticking around made a difference in my life.

On a related note, I uploaded a post to my other blog yesterday. It's a first look at the map of the Capitol, if you're interested. Click here.

I know, I know, I didn't post last week.

I also wasn't on other social media much. In fact, I didn't even check Instagram often enough to know about the whole Lime Crime drama until late last night. It seems my lack of an internet presence has worried more people than I initially realised. After my first friend called me and said she was worried about me (you know who you are and I love you!! :D), I thought nothing of it. But when the second and third friends started commenting on it (you know who you are and I love you too!! :D), I realised that people were a little freaked out.

I've been MIA, because I've been incredibly inspired and sort of overwhelmed lately. Some stuff has been happening, sure enough, and when added up, I've been sort of stressed. But I'm not here to bore you with my personal junk! On the other side I've been writing up a storm. I'm at over 200 pages in 3 weeks at the moment, and I did a re-write in that time too. I've been having something akin to diarrhea of the fingertips, with words just running out of them when they hit a keyboard. That was a fabulous mental image, I know. :)

The point is, I promise you, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'm just writing in every spare moment I can manage. On top of that, the final proofreaders are coming back with their thoughts on The Queen's Fury, and I've been preparing some stuff behind the scenes for that. I'm really excited about the conclusion of the trilogy!! And then this new novel project of mine has me bouncing around like a rubber ball. More on that at some point, otherwise I'll start to babble right now. I've also started one or two other new projects, which takes up some of my time, and then there's the whole mother-of-a-one-year-old-thing.

Otherwise, we've been having this weird situation in South Africa. We're experiencing major problems with electricity, so now they're doing this thing where they have controlled power outages at certain times to 'shed the electricity load'. Hence, they call it load shedding and it's the bane of my existence. Our power goes out for four and a half hours at a time, and a lot more often than you might think. So I'll be right in the middle of that sentence, right at the pivotal moment in a chapter, and then the power will dip without me having saved. I've lost chapters to this!! Haha!

I'm also going to do some cool things in collaboration with Liani and Rita, my cousin Anschke (who's becoming an MUA as we speak!!), and maybe even an up and coming artist. I'll blog all of that when the time comes.

Thank you for sticking with me!

Stay beautiful and be kind to animals,
